October Newsletter

We hope you're enjoying these colorful fall days and staying warm! During this season of natural transition, we're excited to be holding community gatherings to tell you about the ways you can transition towards more climate-friendly homes.

UNCOMMON ELECTRIC
Last month's Uncommon Electric "Greet & Beats" event was an unqualified success jamming with music, food, and a party atmosphere. In total, we had 40 folks in attendance. Stay tuned for another email from our Arts & Outreach coordinator with a more in-depth recap of this event, plus an invitation to the next "Greet & Beats" just a few weeks away on November 18th!

We're looking forward to our next social event on November 18th, 6pm at the South Whidbey Commons.

Please RSVP here and be sure to share the invite with your circles!

If you would like to volunteer at this or future events, please let us know by responding to this email.

NOVEMBER "BETA LAUNCH" INFO SESSION
We are building toward another big January official launch, but in the meantime, we are beginning to process new decarbonization subsidies for clients. If you've been on the waiting list or are otherwise interested in a ductless heat pump, now's your chance to get an award as part of the new cycle. We'll also be unveiling the efficient hot water heater and induction cooking measures! Please come to our Info Session at the South Whidbey Commons on November 18th at 4:30pm. Attendance at an Info Session is a requirement for participation in our program.

CALL TO ACTION: VOTE FOR "FOR THE PEOPLE"
We have some great news! Our fiscal sponsor,
For the People, is a finalist for the BECU People Helping People Awards. What does that mean? You can help us with the chance to receive $40,000 to reinvest into our projects in the community!

As a finalist, For the People has already been awarded $15,000 which will help launch
rePurpose zero waste efforts in Langley. Any additional money will be used to help support additional environmental and social justice efforts in our community such as the Kicking Gas Campaign.

Please take a moment to vote for "For the People" as your choice to win the People's Choice Award. You can
vote here by 5pm this Friday, November 3rd. (Note: One vote per email address; must be over 18 to participate.) Please share with your friends and family! Every vote helps!

BREAKING NEWS: ROLE OF GAS COMPANIES IN MISLEADING THE AMERICAN PUBLIC
Recent news has come out about the negative health impacts of burning fossil fuels in our homes and businesses - not just the climate impacts! Check out some timely - and concerning - articles
here and here

As our November 18th Info Session will outline, a very important aspect of Kicking Gas' 2024 campaign involves helping make induction stoves more accessible and affordable to folks ready to make the switch - not just because of their benefit over gas and propane environmentally, but because fossil fuels take a huge toll on our indoor air quality and respiratory health. Especially post-COVID, we think the subject of air quality safety and how it relates to fossil fuels is super important for our community to know more about. We'll be offering opportunities to explore this and related health topics in the coming weeks and months. You can look forward to us building toward an enhanced Info Session in our beta launches, an updated website, updated communications, and more education on our social media as we work toward the January official launch of our next cycle.

The team at Kicking Gas is very excited about these new opportunities and we look forward to sharing more with you soon.

As always, your generous support is deeply appreciated to expand the work of our tiny but impactful (!) community organization. To donate, please click

We hope to see you on November 18th at our Info Session followed by Uncommon Electric's "Greet & Beats" #2!
