How does Kicking Gas work?

It’s Easy To Get Started

Making the switch to electric helps the planet, makes your home more comfortable, puts your hard-earned change back in your pocket, and contributes to safer physical health for you and your family.

Not only can we offer 20%-50% savings off the total project cost, but we’ll work with you every step of the way to make sure you have the support and resources you need.

How do I know if I am eligible?

If the following apply to you, then congratulations – you’re eligible!

  • I live in one of the following communities:

    • Whidbey Island, WA

    • Snohomish County, WA

    • Bainbridge Island, WA

  • I currently use propane, oil, wood, or so-called “natural” gas in my home for heating and/or cooking.

  • I want to SAVE BIG on ductless heat pumps, electric cooking appliances, and more!

Simple Steps To Upgrading Your Home with Kicking Gas

This is a unique opportunity to upgrade to electric with the support of a committed team and extraordinary savings. We are here to help you every step of the way.

The guide below provides a roadmap for your journey to switching to ductless heat pumps and beyond through the Kicking Gas Campaign.

  1. Let Us Know You’re Interested
Fill out a quick, 5-minute survey to tell us about your household. We’ll confirm your eligibility and send you information about attending an upcoming Info Session, the first requirement for participation in our program.

  2. Attend A Kicking Gas Info Session
At each Info Session, we answer your questions about ductless heat pumps and cooking appliances: how they work, costs, the subsidies we offer, financing options, and the steps in the process. We also provide ground-breaking information and resources around the public and personal health impacts of indoor fossil fuel combustion in our homes, schools, places of work, and communities.

  3. For Heat Pump Program Participants: Schedule A Site Visit and Get A Quote
Trusted community installer Island Ductless Heat Pumps will visit your home to assess your needs and provide a quote for your heat pumps and installation. We are also working with installers EnergyWise, AP Mechanical, and Airganic.

  4. For Cooking Program Participants: Schedule A One-On-One Meeting with our Staff & Submit Proof of Income
Minimal documentary requirements will help confirm your eligibility for the program. During a brief 30-min meeting in-person or Zoom, we’ll introduce the simple parameters to receive either a $500 or $1000 subsidy for a new safer, healthier electric stove.

  5. Validate Financial Package and Contract
We’ll provide you with detailed information about your buy-down subsidy (20-50% off the total project cost), additional tax credits and rebates you can claim, and options for financing the project (heat pumps only) with a micro-loan from our community finance partner, Salish Sea Cooperative Finance (SSCoFi). Once you sign a contract and make your first payment you’ll be ready to go!

  6. Prepare For Installation (Heat Pumps)
Your installer will install your new ductless heat pumps and you’ll start saving on heating costs. Sign up quickly to get on the list! Installations may take several weeks depending on the backlog.

  7. Purchase Your New Stove
Purchase your new electric stove! Then send us a photo of your old stove, a photo of your new stove, and the receipt. We will send you your check within 30 days. It’s that simple!

  8. Follow Up and Support
We’ll provide resources for what to do when there’s a power outage as well as referrals for decommissioning oil and propane infrastructure. We’ll also consult with you on other local opportunities to kick carbon in your community, reduce fossil fuel usage in general, lower monthly bills through electrification, and provide a safer, healthier indoor environment for you and your family.
